The East Texas Writers Association started out as the Longview Writers Association, formed in 1976.
In 1981, the group had grown to include members from areas as far as Texarkana, Lufkin, Shreveport, and Dallas, until a new more appropriate name was needed.
ETWA’s membership represents a mixture of writers, published and not, writing in areas of all genras.
